Hi I’m Umay

✨Books. Culture. Conversations✨

A former medical malpractice Solicitor turned literary creator, reader and interviewer behind UmayReads.

Hi I’m Umay

My love for books isn’t just about the stories they tell, but for what they reveal about people, culture and the world we live in (past and present). From women and identity to culture, translation, power, health and the complexities of the human experience.

My background in medical malpractice law has also shaped a particular interest in women’s health and the ways in which women’s experiences can be overlooked, misunderstood or left out of the systems designed to care for them. This interest grew into ‘Of Wombs & Worth’, a reading curriculum exploring women, medicine, bodies and the stories we tell about them.

I’m equally interested in the people behind the books. Through conversations with authors, creatives and people working across the literary world, I am curious about how stories come to life, what drives people who create them and what they hope their work leaves with the reader.

This is the place where I share what I’m reading, what I’m thinking, and the lessons I discover through reading.
