Hi Harmony Hustlers, for today’s post on how to start a blog in 2025, I want you to imagine a space on the internet that’s entirely yours. A space where you can share your thoughts, experiences, and ideas without anyone else controlling the narrative. Unlike social media platforms, where your content can be controlled by algorithms and all sorts of rules, your blog belongs to you.
Today, I’m going to walk you through exactly how to start a blog in 2025, even if you have zero experience. By the end of this post, you’ll have everything you need to launch with confidence.
Safa’s Story: From Self-Doubt to Confidence
Meet Safa, a Woman Who Transformed her passion into a thriving blog
Safa always loved photography. She had an eye for capturing beauty in everyday moments, but between work, family, and responsibilities, her passion was always pushed to the side.
She watched others share their creativity online, some even making money from their blogs. Deep down, she wanted to do the same. But every time the thought crossed her mind, self-doubt crept in:
“What if no one cares? What if I’m not good enough? What if people judge me?”
For years, she told herself she didn’t have the time or skills to start a blog- until she stumbled on a guide (just like the one you’re reading right now).
She realised blogging wasn’t just for influencers or tech experts. It was for anyone with a passion and a message to share.
Safa took action
So Safa took the plunge and launched her blog.
Fast forward to today, Safa isn’t just a blogger, she’s a thriving photographer, a business owner and someone who gets paid to do what she loves.
And it all started with one decision: to stop doubting herself and start her blog.
What Does This Mean for You: Why now is the best time to start a blog in 2025
If Safa can do it, so can you.
Blogging isn’t just about writing, it’s about owning your story, building your confidence, and creating opportunities. If you’ve ever thought about starting a blog in 2025 and you want to share your experiences, grow a brand or even make money blogging, this guide will walk you through each step.
My Blogging Story
I’d always loved the idea of starting a blog. Over the years, I’d listened to how to start a blog guides, toyed with the thought, but never actually went for it. Life was always too busy.
Then when burnout and chronic illness forced me to step away from law – a career I genuinely loved but one that no longer fit the pace I needed for recovery. Suddenly, for the first time in forever, I had space to think about what I really wanted. And that’s when the blog finally felt right.
I needed something that let me slow down without losing myself. Something that still let me help others, but in a way that worked for me. Writing had always been my outlet, and blogging felt like the perfect way to bring it all together- a place to heal, to create, and maybe one day to turn into something bigger.
Taking the leap
So after an unhealthy amount of brainstorming, I finally did it. I created my blog – the one you’re reading right now.
And honestly? It changed everything.
Writing became my way of focusing on what I could control instead of what I couldn’t.
Through blogging, I learned to set boundaries and let go of the guilt that came with putting myself first. But more than anything, I re-discovered my confidence – something I hadn’t even realised I’d lost. I knew I needed time to recover, but I hadn’t realised just how much of my confidence had faded. It wasn’t until I started blogging, writing, creating and growing in ways I never expected that I truly felt like myself again.
Blogging has given me clarity, personal growth and the ability to connect with like-minded women.
And now, I want to help you do the same.

How to Start a Blog in 2025: A Simple Step-By-Step Guide
Starting a blog might feel overwhelming, but it doesn’t have to be. In just a few steps, I’ll show you how to start a blog in 2025.
1. Pick a Niche
A niche helps you to attract the right audience.
If you’re not sure what to blog about, consider:
- what do you love talking about?
- What questions do people ask me for advice on?
- What do I enjoy learning about?
Think about what you want to write about? What excites you? Whether you want to make money from your blog or it’s just a hobby?
Pro tip: If you plan to monetise your blog, consider topics with profitable potential, like personal finance, business or self-improvement.
2. Pick a Blog name
Once you’ve decided on your niche, brainstorm your blog’s name.
A blog name is your brand. It’s the title and identity of your blog, which reflects your niche and style.
Let’s say you want to start a photography blog focused on travel photography, your blog name could be WanderLens.
This is different from your domain name which is your blog’s web address (e.g., wanderlens.com), which people type into their browser to find your site.
3. Choose a Blogging Platform
There are loads of blogging platforms out there including Squarespace, Wix, Blogger etc, but if you want the best option to start a blog in 2025, WordPress is the way to go.
It’s what I use, and around 40% of websites on the internet run on WordPress too, which tells you it’s doing something right.
There are so many themes (how you want your website to look) and plugins (software which adds functionality to your website) to choose from which help you customise your blog exactly how you want it. You do not need to know how to code.
Another bonus? WordPress is great for SEO (aka helping your blog show up on Google). So, if you want people to actually find your posts, it’s a great choice.
You don’t need to have everything figured out right away. Start with a simple theme and grow it as you go!
But before you jump into signing up with WordPress there’s one important thing to know:
Self-Hosted vs. Free WordPress: What’s best for starting a blog in 2025
When I first started researching how to launch a blog, choosing between a free of self-hosted WordPress Site felt overwhelming. After researching, I went with self-hosting – like most bloggers recommend- and it was the best decision.
It only costs £1.59 month but it’s so worth it.
Let me break it down for you.
Free WordPress Site (www.wordpress.com)
A free WordPress site is like renting a flat. You don’t own it.
- It could be deleted by WordPress at any time – just like Instagram can delete an account.
- Monetisation is restricted -you’ll quickly run into limitations or be forced to pay for upgrades, which defeats the purpose of a free site.
- Limited customisation– your blog’s URL, will look something like yourbrand.wordpress.com which looks less professional.
- Migrating your site is a hassle– You may face a technical disaster with broken links, formatting issues and potentially high costs to fix it.
- Best for hobbyists– If you’re experimenting, a free site is fine. Otherwise self-hosting is the way to go.
Self- Hosted WordPress Site (www.wordpress.org)
A self-hosted WordPress site is like owning your own house. You have full control, your site looks exactly how you want.
The benefits of starting with a self-hosted site from day one are:
- You own your blog – no risk of it being shut down.
- Full creative freedom– customise everything to match your vision
- Monetisation options – earn through ads, affiliate marketing, and digital products
- Professional branding -Your blog looks professional with a custom domain i.e. ‘yourbrand.com’ The .org at the end of the self-hosted WordPress site does not prevent you from choosing a .com domain or any other extension that suits your blog.
- No forced ads – WordPress won’t run ads on your site that you don’t profit from
Honestly, spending less than £2 a month on my blog was the best decision. If I’d gone with a free site, I just know I wouldn’t have taken it seriously. Putting a little money into it made me show up, and the consistent effort is beginning to pay off.
If you’re serious about starting a blog in 2025, I recommend self-hosting. For this, you’ll need a hosting provider, which brings us to the next step.
4. Get Hosting and a Domain (I Recommend Bluehost!)
A self-hosted website requires a hosting provider. It’s an essential step if you want to start a blog in 2025. In simple terms, a hosting provider is a company that gives your blog a space to exist on the internet.
I use Bluehost, and after a year of running my blog, I highly recommend it. It’s so much cheaper than other hosting providers out there, and the perks are great.
- It’s only £1.59/month
- You get a free custom domain for the first year – A domain is the web address people type into a search bar on the internet to find your blog i.e. mysite.com. A custom domain normally costs around £1-20/year (depending on the name you choose). My domain is ufshah.com.
- you have 24/7 customer support to help you with setup and ongoing maintenance of your site- I’ve lost count of how many times I’ve reached out to them for help, and they’ve always walked me through every issue.
Bluehost Plan Options
There are a number of plans to choose from which offer different features. I personally went with the basic plan which is the most affordable option. It’s only £1.59 per month. A Year later, I have zero regrets. It’s still doing everything I need it to, without any issues.

You can take a look at the different plans in more detail here.
If you’ve been thinking about starting a blog but keep putting it off, take this as your sign- it’s time. Plus, since you’ve made it this far into this post, it must be something you really want to do.
So go for it!
Just visit Bluehost, pick a plan and get started!
I’ve also noticed that they’re currently offering a 30-day money-back guarantee, so you can try it completely risk free.
5. Design Your Website
Now that you have your website, it’s time to move onto the fun part- choosing a theme.
WordPress has a huge library of free themes, which are great for getting started.
I’ll be honest, I was very picky about my theme- a bit too picky. I spent hours watching YouTube tutorials and customising every little detail, only to realise I wasn’t happy with everything I’d done. It’s so easy to fall into the trap of endlessly perfecting your site’s design, but I’d caution against it.
I recommend picking a theme that feels good enough for now and just starting. You can always tweak it later, but the most important thing is to start blogging!
6. Start Writing Content
You’re all set to start a blog in 2025! It’s time to get creative.
Now that your site is all set up, you just have to click ‘New Post’ and start typing! Don’t worry about perfection- this is a trap! If you spend ages figuring out how to phrase a sentence, or choosing the best image, you’ll waste precious time.
Just pick a topic and start typing. With practice this will get easier.
SEO
Before you hit post, just make sure your post is optimised for search Engines like Google (SEO), so more people can find your posts.
Don’t worry, you don’t need to know everything right away, but understanding the basics will make a huge difference as your blog grows.
For now, just focus on one thing- choosing a keyword that someone might type into Google to find your post. For example, if you’re writing about the best Sony Camera in 2025, your keyword might be Sony Camera 2025. When someone searches for that, your post has a chance of showing up in their results. The better your SEO, the more readers will find your blog.
If you want me to break down SEO step by step, let me know. I can put together a full post on SEO.
7. Start a blog in 2025 & learn how to Promote & Monetise it
Once you’ve started creating content, it’s time to promote your blog. Start by sharing your posts on social media, engage with your audience and build a community.
From there you can start exploring ways to monetise your blog. For example, you can join an affiliate marketing program, or get a sponsor for a blog post you’re writing. There are lots of ways to monetise your blog when you’re ready.
You won’t become a millionaire overnight, but there have been bloggers who have paid off their student loans, their debts, and their mortgages all from blogging. Others have built businesses from it allowing them to quit their full-time jobs. If they can do it, so can you.
You’re all set to start a blog in 2025
Now that you know exactly how to start a blog in 2025, don’t wait for the perfect time – just go for it. There’s no better time than now. The world is waiting for your perspective- start sharing it today.
